 note = {A number of recent articles have proposed that adverbs are licensed by a functional bead with which it is semantically associated in a certain syntactic relation.The aim of this paper is to consider what kinds of functional beads license adverbs within the framework of the minimalist prbgramproposed by Chomsky (1995,2001). It is proposed in this paper that functional categories are divided into two types: one is core functional categories such as C and l and the other is peripheral functional categories such as Mod and Mood.
