In this paper, using the simple parabolic approximation of performance function, a very simple second-order reliability index is suggested and a judge formula of curvature range for which FORM is accurate is proposed for easy practical application of SORM in structural engineering. By the proposed approximations, SORM can be easily applied without rotational transformation and eigenvalue analysis of Hessian matrixes.
